History of the Belgian Malinois Shepherd Dog :
The Malinois dog is one of the four varieties of Belgian shepherd dog that were known as the shepherd dogs of the country of which it is the descendant in the 19th century in Mechelen, Belgium. It was in 1909 that the short-haired fawn type, otherwise known as "Malinois", was officially recognized and since then the Malinois dog has climbed the ranks to become the most preferred French dog in 2017 with 12307 entries. The Malinois Belgian Shepherd is a dog of rare intelligence, which has made him an excellent working dog. That is why he became an indisputable member of the cryotechnical teams. Police dog, gendarmerie dog, avalanche dog, rubble dog, herd and property guard, drug or explosive sniffer dog.
Morphology of the Belgian Malinois Shepherd

The Malinois Belgian Shepherd is a dog that has exceptional physical qualities, he is lipoid of medium size, rustic. With a dry musculature, it is robust, powerful and elegant. The Malinois Belgian Shepherd is recognized by his mask extending from the lips to the eyelids, with a fine snout, a very powerful jaw and medium sized, oblique, dark brownish eyes, displays an insightful and intelligent expression. These trained ears give him a lively and always alert appearance. The Malinois dog is a short-haired species on the whole body, its basic color is charred fawn. Its tail is whole and carried low, hanging when the dog is at rest and raised when it is in action. The Malinois measures about 60 cm and weighs between 25 and 30 kg. 
The Malinois Belgian Shepherd is an alert dog that has great learning abilities: if they are applied regularly, he can become very obedient.
The different types of Malinois

Malinois belongs to the Belgian breed of shepherds, of which several well-defined types can be distinguished:

  • The Greenendael: a long-haired black dog
  • The Laekenois: a fawn and charred dog with hard hair
  • The Tervuren: a fawn and charred grey short-haired dog
  • Malinois: is the fourth variety of Belgian shepherds. It is a fawn and charred short-haired dog, recognized for its black mask.

Even if the Belgian shepherds do not resemble each other, they are a unique breed, of which the Malinois is only one variety.

The Malinois Belgian Shepherd is a dog that combines the qualities of the best guard dog, he is extremely intelligent, alert and active, overflowing with vitality and always ready to take action. Dynamic, attentive, alert, and very attached to the master and family, that is why he is an excellent companion, he defends his master without hesitation using all his determination and explosive power.
The Malinois is a relatively nervous dog, but easy to train, because it has an attentive character and an exceptional learning capacity. His versatility allows him to be a shepherd, guard, defense and service dog, he is a high level worker. In addition to these qualities he is also playful, docile and cheerful.

Health & Hygiene

The Belgian Shepherd Malinois is a robust and rustic dog, There is no health problem particular to the breed, as long as we take care of it. 

perfectly, he does not have much to fear at the health level and what offers him a life expectancy which varies between 12 and 14 years.
The Malinois must be brushed once a week and the cleansing of the eyes and ears must be done with the help of product adviser for these animals.

The Malinois Belgian Shepherd is essentially a working dog, he needs to stay active, so he needs long daily outings with exercises and games that allow him to release his energy, because he is a sports dog par excellence.
